The Best Summer Coffee Drinks You Can Make at Home

Hot weather and hot coffee do not always go together. When the sun is out, iced coffee starts to make a lot more sense. You’ve come to the right place for iced coffee recipes!

The good news is that you do not need a commercial espresso machine or a full coffee shop setup to make brilliant summer coffee drinks at home. With freshly roasted coffee, a few simple tools and plenty of ice, you can make iced lattes, cold brew, iced mochas, frappé-style drinks and bright iced filter coffee in your own kitchen.

Here are some of the best summer coffee drinks you can make at home, plus the coffee and equipment we recommend for each one.

1. Iced Vanilla Latte

An iced vanilla latte is one of the easiest iced coffee recipes to recreate at home. It is sweet, creamy, cold and very easy to customise.

For this recipe, we recommend Spanish House Blend. It is a good choice for milk-based drinks because it gives you enough strength to cut through the milk, ice and vanilla syrup.

You will need:

  • 18g finely ground Spanish House Blend
  • 60ml strong coffee or espresso-style coffee
  • 150ml cold milk or oat milk
  • 1 to 2 pumps vanilla syrup
  • Ice
  • A tall glass
  • Optional: handheld milk frother

Method:

  1. Brew a strong coffee using an espresso machine, moka pot or AeroPress.
  2. Fill a glass with ice.
  3. Add the vanilla syrup.
  4. Pour in the cold milk.
  5. Add the coffee over the top.
  6. Stir well, or froth the milk first for a creamier finish.

2. Smooth Cold Brew

Cold brew is one of the best summer coffee drinks because it is smooth, refreshing and easy to make in batches. Brew it once, keep it in the fridge, then pour it over ice whenever you want.

For this recipe, Brazil Santos is a great single-origin option. It has cocoa, creamy, nutty and peanut flavour notes, which make it smooth and easy to drink cold.

You can also use one of our dedicated cold brew blends if you want a coffee made specifically for cold extraction. Try Savannah Ice for an easy everyday cold brew, Ethiopia Breeze for a brighter style, Mayan Chill for a stronger iced coffee base, or Frozen Amazon for milk-based cold brew drinks.

You will need:

  • 100g coarse ground Brazil Santos
  • 800g cold water
  • A cold brew maker or large jar
  • Ice
  • Optional: milk or oat milk

Method:

  1. Add the coarse ground coffee to your cold brew maker.
  2. Pour over the cold water.
  3. Stir gently.
  4. Leave in the fridge for 12 to 18 hours.
  5. Filter the coffee.
  6. Serve over ice, black or with milk.

For best results, use a proper cold brew system. At Hormozi Coffee, we stock the Toddy Domestic Cold Brewer, which is designed specifically for smooth, low-acidity cold brew and is ideal for making batches at home.

3. Iced Mocha

An iced mocha is perfect when you want something cold, chocolatey and slightly indulgent. It sits somewhere between an iced latte and a dessert drink, but it is still easy to make at home.

For this recipe, we recommend Trial by Fire Blend. It works well in a mocha because the coffee has enough presence to stand up to chocolate, milk and ice.

You will need:

  • 18g finely ground Trial by Fire Blend
  • 60ml strong coffee or espresso-style coffee
  • 150ml cold milk
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sauce or chocolate syrup
  • Ice
  • Optional: whipped cream
  • Optional: cocoa powder

Method:

  1. Add chocolate sauce to the bottom of a glass.
  2. Brew a strong coffee and pour it over the chocolate.
  3. Stir until combined.
  4. Fill the glass with ice.
  5. Add cold milk.
  6. Stir well and top with whipped cream if you want a more indulgent drink.

For a smoother texture, shake the coffee, chocolate and milk together in a cocktail shaker before pouring over ice.

4. Decaf Iced Latte

A decaf iced latte is ideal for the afternoon or evening when you want the taste of coffee without the caffeine hit. It is also a good choice if you are trying to reduce your caffeine but still want a proper iced coffee.

For this recipe, use Colombia Sugar Cane Decaf. It has chocolate, vanilla and caramel flavour notes, which work beautifully with milk and ice.

You will need:

  • 18g finely ground Colombia Sugar Cane Decaf
  • 60ml strong decaf coffee
  • 150ml cold milk or oat milk
  • Ice
  • Optional: vanilla or caramel syrup

Method:

  1. Brew a strong decaf coffee.
  2. Fill a glass with ice.
  3. Add cold milk.
  4. Pour the decaf coffee over the top.
  5. Add syrup if you want it sweeter.
  6. Stir and serve.

This is a great after-dinner coffee drink, especially if you want something cold and creamy without staying awake all night.

5. Fruity Iced Filter Coffee

Not every iced coffee recipe needs milk or syrup. A fruity iced filter coffee can be light, bright and refreshing, almost like a cold coffee spritz without the fizz.

For this recipe, use Guji or Kenya PB if you enjoy fruit-forward coffees. These styles work well as iced filter coffee because the acidity and fruit notes become very refreshing when served cold.

You will need:

  • 18g medium ground Guji or Kenya PB
  • 150g hot water
  • 100g ice
  • A V60, filter brewer or similar
  • A serving glass

Method:

  1. Add 100g of ice to your serving glass or jug.
  2. Brew 18g coffee with 150g hot water directly over the ice.
  3. Swirl gently to chill the coffee evenly.
  4. Serve immediately over fresh ice if needed.

This method is sometimes called Japanese-style iced coffee. Because the coffee is brewed hot and chilled instantly over ice, you keep more of the bright aromatics than you would with a long cold brew.

6. Coffee Frappé

A coffee frappé is the drink to make when you want something colder, thicker and closer to a milkshake. It is very easy to make with a blender, ice, milk and strong coffee.

For this recipe, New World Blend works well because its chocolate and caramel notes suit blended iced coffee recipes.

You will need:

  • 60ml strong coffee made with New World Blend
  • 150ml milk
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 to 2 pumps vanilla, caramel or chocolate syrup
  • Optional: whipped cream

Method:

  1. Brew a strong coffee and let it cool slightly.
  2. Add coffee, milk, ice and syrup to a blender.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour into a tall glass.
  5. Top with whipped cream if desired.

This is a good weekend drink, especially if you want a café-style treat without leaving the house.

7. Iced Caramel Coffee Shake

This one is simple, sweet and ideal if you like iced coffee recipes with a dessert feel. It is not quite a frappé and not quite an iced latte. Think of it as a quick coffee shake.

For this recipe, Frozen Amazon is a good cold brew option if you want a dedicated cold brew base for a milk-based drink.

You will need:

  • 100ml cold brew made with Frozen Amazon
  • 150ml cold milk
  • 1 to 2 pumps caramel syrup
  • Ice
  • Optional: scoop of vanilla ice cream

Method:

  1. Add cold brew, milk, caramel syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker or blender.
  2. Shake or blend until chilled and slightly frothy.
  3. Pour into a tall glass.
  4. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you want a more indulgent version.

8. Bright Cold Brew Over Ice

If you normally find cold brew too heavy, try a brighter cold brew blend instead. Ethiopia Breeze is a good choice when you want your iced coffee recipe to feel cleaner, lighter and more refreshing.

You will need:

  • 100ml to 150ml cold brew made with Ethiopia Breeze
  • Ice
  • Optional: a splash of cold water
  • Optional: a slice of orange or lemon peel for garnish

Method:

  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Pour over the cold brew.
  3. Add a small splash of cold water if you want a lighter drink.
  4. Garnish with citrus peel if desired.
  5. Serve immediately.

This is a good option for people who enjoy black coffee but want something more refreshing in hot weather.

9. Strong Cold Brew with Coffee Ice Cubes

If you hate watery iced coffee recipes, this is the recipe to make. Use Mayan Chill to make a cold brew base, then freeze some of it into coffee ice cubes. When the cubes melt, they add more coffee flavour instead of diluting the drink.

You will need:

  • Cold brew made with Mayan Chill
  • A large ice cube tray
  • A glass
  • Optional: milk or oat milk

Method:

  1. Make a batch of cold brew using Mayan Chill.
  2. Pour some of the cold brew into an ice cube tray.
  3. Freeze until solid.
  4. Fill a glass with the coffee ice cubes.
  5. Pour fresh cold brew over the top.
  6. Add milk if desired.

This is one of the easiest ways to make stronger iced coffee at home without it becoming bitter or watered down.

10. Everyday Cold Brew

For a simple fridge-friendly cold brew that you can drink throughout the week, use Savannah Ice. It is a dedicated cold brew blend, making it a good option if you want an easy summer coffee without overthinking the recipe.

You will need:

Method:

  1. Add the coffee to your cold brew system.
  2. Pour over cold water.
  3. Stir gently.
  4. Leave in the fridge for 12 to 18 hours.
  5. Filter and store in the fridge.
  6. Serve over ice whenever you want.

This is the kind of drink that makes sense to keep ready during summer, especially if you normally buy iced coffee when you are out. This is one of my favourite iced coffee recipes.
