DESCAMEX is a company founded in 1980 by Mr. Domingo Muguira Revuelta, being the first
decaffeinating plant in Latin America. In 1990 the Sanroke Group ensured that Descamex, focused on
their supply chains and the quality of their product. They promptly invested in 4 coffee warehouses in
the south of the country to allow them to move closer to their producers and build the 30-year
relationship that has ensued. In their pursuit to export high quality decaffeinated coffee, Descamex now
provides technical support to producers throughout their Mexican supply chain.
The green beans are sent for decaffeination at the Mountain Water facility in Veracruz, Mexico.
Mountain Water Process is unique non-chemical decaffeination process that uses the clear waters from
the highest mountain in Mexico, the Pico de Orizaba to gently remove the caffeine from the green
The process works by immersing the green beans in water in order to extract the caffeine content. The
water preserves the soluble flavour components of the green beans and this protects the original
characteristics of the coffee.
In order to remove the caffeine the water is passed through a filtration system. The caffeine is
extracted, and the Pure Mountain Water Process Decaffeinated green beans are now 99.9% caffeine
free. Their commitment to achieve the best results in quality, taste and consistency has resulted in the
world-renowned Pure Mountain Water process.
